#MakeANoteMondayIt’s National Stationery Week! Day one’s theme is #MakeANoteMonday so let’s jump right into that! It’s actually interesting to see how everyone is going to interpret this theme. There are plenty of different ways to interpret this. As most of us are restricted to our homes, I thought of some ways for you to get involved from the comfort of your own home! Whilst this theme might just for Monday, I think these ideas are definitely something you can carry on throughout the weeks. They are particularly effective during this period where you might need something to do or a way to cheer up your friends or family.

These ideas are a great way to promote self-care too, using stationery. You can get as creative as you want. Fancy adding more colours or drawing? Sure! Go ahead! You can also just keep them simple if you prefer, it’s completely up to you. Some of these ideas will also work to help bring joy to other people, which is always a bonus!

Stationery Projects, including National Stationery Week

During these bleak times of self-isolation and social distancing, connecting with people is very important. Obviously, going out and seeing your friends and family in person is no longer an option. However, it’s definitely possible to connect with likeminded people through online platforms, such as social media. There are some really good stationery projects or upcoming national weeks that are a great way of connecting with people whilst also practicing self-care. Today, I wanted to share some of the ones that I found and am currently taking part in. 

There are a lot more challenges out there, of course. If you find anything you think is worth shouting out about, feel free to drop a comment below and let everyone know. I’ve previously spoken about my own stationery self-care project and plan to share more on that in the coming months.

National Stationery Week 2020

National Stationery Week

On Monday, we will be kicking off the week with National Stationery Week! Yes, a week dedicated to everything related to stationery – for likeminded stationery addicts to come together and chat. Perfect for someone like me!

If you don’t already know, National Stationery Week (or NatStatWeek for short) is a week dedicated to stationery. This initiative focuses on encouraging people to write, draw and just use stationery more. They strongly believed that writing by hand matters – and I agree. I also think stationery is a great tool to help promote good mental health. Using stationery, there’s a huge variety of self-care activities and during these bleak times, a bit of self-care never went amiss.

7 Days Of Stationery

The seven days of stationery are the themed days that they have for the entire week. They have a huge range, allowing you to pick up and use any of your stationery. This year’s themes are:

Other Stationery Projects 

#The100DayProject – 

The 100 Day Project has been taking place for many years now. It is a brilliant scheme invented to help encourage people to do something daily, for one hundred days. You can do absolutely anything you want. It is a great chance to get creative and do a hobby or something that you have wanted to do for ages but not had the chance to. You could draw, write, create music. Whatever it is, you decide.

Following the hashtag, you can find many people working on their own projects. It is a good way to connect with the likeminded creatives whilst also practicing your own skills. I do take this project a little less seriously than others do. Personally, I would love to have the dedication to create something and post it up on Instagram daily. However, I know I would struggle with that. So I work on art in my own time and just try and do it daily but will not tear myself down if I cannot manage that. It is not meant to be stressful, after all. It is meant to be fun.

The project officially started on the 7th April. However, you can sign up all year around and take place whenever you want. Just start counting the days from when you start! Find out more here.

The Isolation Journals

This is actually a new project that started on the 1st April, specifically to encourage thirty days of creativity with a prompt. In these trying times, I think the Isolation Journals is a great way to help people get some of their feelings down on paper. Whilst it is a ‘journal’, I don’t think it is limited to writing by any means. You can certainly draw or express yourself through other mediums for some of the prompts. 

All of the prompts have been stored on the website so you can go back and start at day 1. Whilst you can do them all daily, which is highly recommended, I actually do it a different way. One of my friends and I call each other and chat before we spend fifteen minutes doing it together. Usually the fifteen minutes go by in mostly silence – with the occasional comment now and then – but it is a good way to stay accountable.

The prompts themselves are rather interesting.

The first one I did actually made me cry a little, writing out to a stranger that I had met once on a train who I never got to thank properly for all that she did. Some are a little harder, such as the third one where I was unsure of what to actually write. However, I did it nonetheless and uncovered some feelings that I did not know that I was suppressing. 

The Isolation Journals, whilst is aimed at being a private thing, do provide plenty of opportunities for you to connect with others. There is a facebook group, where people share some of their entries. If you wish, you could always join that to see what others are saying or share your own. You can also do it the way I do and find a friend or a group yourself to journal with and stay accountable with.

Enjoying Self-Isolation against COVID-19

It’s about time that I talk about the dreaded C-word: COVID-19, also known as the Coronavirus. The virus itself has created a change in our daily routines and our mood. It’s affecting us all. More and more, people are now cooped up in self-isolation, without contact with others. Social distancing is incredibly important to help slow the spread of the virus. However, mental health and mood is also important. Today, I wanted to talk a little about that.

Over the coming weeks, I will be writing more blog posts to try and help you improve your own mental health, your mood and just do some self-care. These ideas might also include what you can do for others to help them, especially if you are worried they are sick or you are worried for them. I hope that these things will help you to self-care whilst also helping others. 

Focus on something else

Perhaps you have a hobby that you’ve been meaning to practice, such as drawing. Maybe your life dream has always been to publish a book. You might have lost touch with friends or relatives that you wanted to stay in touch with. Whatever it is, now is a good time to start taking action towards it. Self isolating and social distancing is purely physical. If you want to draw, just grab a pen and paper and do it. You can use your computer to write if you don’t fancy practicing your handwriting. Picking up the phone and giving your loved ones a call – or even messaging them through any of the online services they may have – is a great way to get back in touch. Video calls are pretty simple these days.

Do you have books lying around that you always wanted to read but never finished? Perhaps letters to write? Cleaning to do? Whatever it is, now is a great time to sort your space out and start working on those unfinished tasks. If you are already organised, perhaps you could try something new. Experiment, start a new project, find new ways to bond with your loved ones online or with those you live – maybe you could have a board game night or card game night?

Make your space your own

If you’re working from home, try and make your environment a little more pleasant. This could be trying to find a quiet space, perhaps it’s a clean desk or maybe it’s adding some pictures up. For me, I needed a quiet space to work and would ask the people home at the same time to just not talk to me until I finished work. I also drank a lot of water, and had good lighting in the room – and a comfortable chair. I know not everyone will have all of the facilities but try and make the space a place that’s comfortable for you to stay at for a while and a place where you can concentrate on the task at hand.

That’s all from me today. But I’ll be back with projects, reviews and self-care opportunities for everyone to try and stay positive in these times in the coming weeks. My hope is that self-isolation becomes slightly more enjoyable. For now, I hope you and your loved ones are all safe and healthy. 

30 before 30 – my progress

Eek! Less than a year to go before I hit that point where I should probably figure out how to adult. (Why don’t we instantly learn how to adult when I hit thirty, right?!). I actually created my 30 before 30 list when I turned 28 to give myself two years to complete it. It seemed apt to try and get down what I wanted to have achieved in the next two years. Since I have less than a year left, I thought it best to review the list and see if there has been any progress towards it in the past year. I know I did not dedicate as much time as I would have liked last year towards it so this is something I will have to actively add to my planner over coming months.

Gift idea: Selfcare Box

I had an absolute blast making my Secret Santa gift for my colleague in the recent weeks. It was pretty obvious that she got it from me – it took her seconds to guess. So I guess I’m okay posting this up now! However, I just wanted to share the gift with you as it was so much fun to make. I might actually make myself one – and perhaps some others for other people. Presenting the selfcare box!

Selfcare Box

This year, I opted to make a self-care box for the recipient. The budget was only £10 so I definitely had to get a little creative. It is possible to purchase some premade self-care boxes for slightly more. I personally love the Blurt boxes but they are double the price (they are definitely worth it though). Since I was trying very hard to stick to the budget, I ended up making a bunch of things myself.
