Write_On Campaign 2017

Writing letters is making a definite comeback in society.  As technology advances, the art of letterwriting seems to wither away.  It’s understandable in a way – social media has made it easier than ever to contact someone, anywhere in the world.  It’s a lot faster.  But there’s some advantages to writing that cannot be achieved in other methods of written communication.  And there’s a few of us that don’t want to see it wither away.  That few of us that seem to be growing in strength and numbers.  With several months, weeks and days dedicated to writing, letters are becoming popular again – and for good reasons!

In February, we saw InCoWriMo, which stands for International Correspondence Writing Month (run by the organisers of NaNoWriMo – National Novel Writing Month).  But that’s just the beginning.  The start of April marked the start of the Write_On challenge.  This challenge encourages you to write 30 letters in 30 days but since we’re already started, you could aim to write 12 – one of each of the remaining days.  At the very least, aim to write one!

I particularly like that National Stationery Week, here in the UK, also falls in this month.  Two major campaigns to get people writing more.  I found out about the challenge last year, where I shared over 30 letters you could write, in case you didn’t know who to send them to.  This year, I thought I would take a moment to share over 30 reasons why you should write in the first place.

Valentine’s Day Stationery: Notepads

Since Valentine’s Day is around the corner, I thought it was the perfect time to do a little mini series on thoughtful gifts  ideas and all of the Valentine’s stationery that you need in your life!  You can read the introduction here before we dive into the first idea.  This one is probably one of my favourites.  It’s so simple and easy to do, you have no reason for not doing it.  It’s inexpensive but thoughtful and you could even turn it into a game…  So let’s jump right in and see how this idea might work for you!

National Stationery Week – Write a Letter Day

A few weeks ago I spoke about a letter writing challenge called Write On and if you read that, you’ll know how much I love receiving or writing letters!  So I’m absolutely thrilled that there’s a day dedicated specifically to this – because it’s just an amazing thing to do.  I’ve shared with you my love for writing letters, a list of ideas of who you could write to if you wanted to and even wrote a letter to you all…  However, the one thing that I haven’t shared yet is why I love letters.  I thought I’d take a moment to do that today.

Receiving a letter is far more special in my eyes than getting a text or email.  It’s so much more effort and feels all that much more thoughtful and considerate.  I love receiving letters in the post, they brighten up my day.  On the days that I’m sad or if I miss my friends, having a letter to read can really help – whereas a text or email doesn’t quite have the same impact.

You are Awesome CardEven now, I can think of many letters that I received that made me smile so much.  Just thinking about them has put a smile on my face, whilst I type this and has made me feel so relaxed.  It makes me feel loved, just remembering the kindness of my friends.  One wrote a letter to me that ended with “now stop smiling, your colleagues will think you’re mad”.  It made me so happy because I was grinning like an idiot the whole way through and seeing that showed me how well my friend knew me, it just made me laugh!  Another friend sent me a card that said “you are awesome” and she included this adorable little inflatable monkey with the card, that I keep on my desk as a reminder that hardwork and dedication can help me achieve my goals (as that’s what she had written in the card).  Whilst another friend surprises me with random letters asking me how I am, how my blog or job is going, if I’ve opened up my etsy store etc…  All of the things that she could ask me by text or phone but she thought she’d write to me and I love that.  It shows that no matter how far away you may be from your friends, they’ll always carry you with them in their heart.

So if you’ve taken nothing away from this week then take this message: write a letter to someone, tell them how thankful you are to know them, show them that you care – trust me, you’ll make them happy.  And they’ll remember it for a while.  Surprise someone – I still get told about the time I surprised a few friends with some cards when they needed it most.  That little gesture of thought and care is something they still talk affectionately about and appreciate.  Do it, you’ll be thankful later.

National Stationery Week – Thank You Thursday

Today might be the most important day of the whole week – thank you thursday.  Often, we forget to say thank you to the people closest to us, the ones we take for granted or the ones we think should just know how grateful we are… But people don’t always know until you tell them.  So today is about taking a moment out of our busy lives and saying thank you to those that matter to you.  What are you doing for Thank You Thursday?  Why not write a letter or buy a thank you card to send to someone?  Even if you can’t send it today, make the effort to send it this week and I’m sure they’ll be thrilled to receive it.

Now I have said this in the past few weeks and will, most definitely, be saying it again in the next few as I relaunched my blog with your support and will hit my one year anniversary soon too…  But I wanted to take a moment to say thank you to you.  You are the reason I blog – because people like you stop by to read it.  I have learnt so much since starting Aumsome, new skills and knowledge that I’m so grateful to know now.  I never expected to be able to work with brands but I have.  I never expected to go to blogger events or planners meets (I didn’t even realise you could do that before) but I’ve loved each and every one of them.  I’ve found new passions and dreams that I had knew about or considered before I started blogging.

So without much further ado, here you go:

Thank you letter from me to you

Transcript (if you can’t read my handwriting or the image doesn’t load…)

To you – yes  you,

I’ve probably already said it but I wanted to take a moment to say it again – thank you. You’ve come to visit my blog, read my posts and supported me in more ways than you can possibly know.  More of you than I ever imagined have also shared, messaged me or commented on my posts.  When you comment or message to say that you’ve enjoyed my post, learnt something or felt inspired by it I feel all warm inside!  Your support truly means the world to me – you should see how happy I get everytime I get a notification of a comment or message from one of you!

So thank you – for just being you!

Love,

R x

I wish I could send you all a letter each but sadly, I don’t have the resources to be able to do that (and it will probably be very weird I asked for everyone’s postal address…).  So hopefully this will work – my letter to you all.  For the letter, I chose to write it on Molly & Rex paper from the ‘Create your own happiness’ paper pad.  I love Molly & Rex note pads and always write letters using it but can’t find it easily.  I get mine from Homesense or TK Maxx (which I believe is TJ Maxx, if you’re in the States) and swear by them so I would definitely recommend them.  If anyone wants a closer look at the notepads I have from them then please let me know and I’ll happily share some more pictures with you (or send you a letter, *wink wink*).

But for now, let me sign off and just end with a big thank you!  Happy Thank You Thursday everyone – please do spread the love and tell someone that you’re thankful to have them in your life too, thanks!

Write On!

This blog post is about something pretty special – a challenge dedicated to writing letters and bringing back the handwritten form of communication.  In fact, it’s a whole month dedicated to writing letters and oddly enough is referred to as – wait for it – National Letterwriting Month! (Funny that, eh?).  You might remember but I spoke about how writing letters was something I really enjoyed doing before so it’s really no surprise that I love the idea of a letterwriting month!  The Write On challenges you to write a letter daily for the whole month – that’s 30 letters in 30 days!

Write On 3

The challenge itself is run by Egg Press and Hello!Lucky and supported by many other companies and partners.  I think most of the companies involved are US based so it would be amazing for UK based companies  and participants to get involved.  And this is why I have decided to share this with you today – I really want to encourage more people, like myself, to write more letters – and hopefully get more people writing here in the UK.

Write OnThese letters don’t have to be long. They don’t have to be written on beautiful paper, with beautiful handwriting and beautiful coloured pens. They just need to be written, they just need to be sincere. Imagine the recipient’s smile on the other side and write.

So without further ado, I present you with 30* ideas of letters that you could write or who you could write a letter to. (* Bonus ideas at the end are my personal favourites)
