Stationery SelfCare: The Creative Wellbeing Challenge for Stationery Lovers
Do you love stationery and want to practice selfcare? This project is for you! Perhaps you like challenging yourself, trying new things and experimenting to see what works best for you? Maybe you already know exactly what helps improve your wellbeing! Either way, Stationery Selfcare offers prompts and ideas for those moments when you want to do something but perhaps you’re unsure of what to do, or you are feeling a little overwhelmed and do not want to think too much.
And what better time to launch the project than Mental Health Awareness Week and National Stationery Week? It seems almost fated that the two should align perfectly for the occasion.
What is Stationery Selfcare?
Stationery Selfcare is all about using the things you already have and love in a way that benefits your wellbeing – stationery tools, arts and crafts. Whether you have two minutes or two hours, it is about slowing down and taking a moment to relax, giving you a moment to just sit and create.
The tasks are simple, and whether you journal or paint, there is something for any stationery addict and creative out there. Do you enjoy a good list? Do you enjoy making a mess with paint or constantly having ink all over your fingers? Love collecting notebooks even if you do not use them? Whether you consider yourself an artist or not, this project is for you.
On this blog and over on Instagram, Stationery Selfcare prompts, ideas and challenges will be posted up. Some may take a couple of minutes, others may take hours. Pick and choose what you want to do, and do it. If you want to share this publicly and connect with others, please do – and if you do share it, tag @stationeryselfcare #stationeryselfcare into your posts so it can be reshared!
The Backstory – what does it mean to me?
In Sept 2017, I wrote what is probably my favourite post ever. It combined two things I love – stationery and selfcare. Previously, I featured 20 ways to do this. However, over the years, I have thought of more ideas, and this has been a concept that was always on my mind to launch as a larger project. Now I’m finally getting around to giving it the revisit and attention it deserves.
I want to preface this by saying that whilst selfcare does not solve all problems and is not a cure all, I believe that it does play an important part on people’s wellbeing. Selfcare looks incredibly different for everyone. For some, it might be going for a run whilst for others it may be reading a book. For me, a lot of my selfcare options revolve around stationery, arts and crafts. I created this project for myself originally, to give me ideas of how to use something that made me happy more often in my day-to-day life.
Why Writing Matters
This past few months, I have been fighting with postpartum depression and attempting to move past the trauma surrounding my baby’s birth. Having the support of family, friends and being able to hold my baby in my arms helped me to overcome this without a doubt. However, my journal also held a very important role in this journey. Being in the hospital in the middle of the night when everyone else was asleep and my newborn was in NICU, gave me a lot of time to think, and my journal allowed me to process my feelings as well as navigate through my thoughts.

Since coming home, I have found that I often reach for my journal when I feel overwhelmed or rely on my planner to help me sort out my priorities and remember important appointments. I love spending time, wherever possible, creating some arts and crafts – whether that is painting or crafting. This past year really reinforced the thought that stationery, arts and crafts are vital for me to have good mental health, and I wanted to share this project with you all in the hopes that it benefits someone else in a similar position.
So, where do you start?
